The touchscreen revolution

Banker’s hours
New TD location to be open seven days a week

It was an unusually festive celebration for the grand opening of a bank: TD Canada Trust launched its new 5,200-square-foot branch in St. John’s, N.L. with a cook-off, live music and cheque presentations to two local charities.

Unusual perhaps, but also appropriate for a branch that boasts a number of unique features: a community boardroom designed for use by businesses and not-for-profit groups (available free-of-charge and includes business services such as video conferencing capabilities and a printer); a community wall depicting a visual story about the area (the current display features projects funded by the local chapter of the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and includes space for community groups to post flyers about upcoming events); an open concept design that helps TD serve customers better by moving financial specialists out from behind desks directly to the customers; a customer lounge with a coffee station and magazine rack, where customers can wait in comfort if they arrive early for an appointment or are waiting for their friends or family to complete their banking; and, digital displays mounted throughout the branch to provide customers with current information about TD products and services.

The branch is TD’s tenth in the province. Brian Gervais, senior vice president, Atlantic Canada, TD Canada Trust, says that additional expansions are planned throughout the region. “Our go-forward strategy will be a combination of new branch openings in growing markets and renovating existing premises in markets where we can significantly upgrade the customer experience.”

“For over 90 years, TD has been a part of Atlantic communities and has grown along with the region. With 50 branches in Atlantic Canada, TD Canada Trust serves over 790,000 customers a year and employs over 670 retail employees in the region. Our newest branch in St. John’s represents our commitment to providing exceptional customer service to the local community.”
