Halifax’s Neptune Theatre celebrates 52 years of sharing the magic
There’s magic to be felt inside the historic walls of Halifax’s Neptune Theatre, now celebrating its 52nd season. When the lights go down and the curtains part, a community comes together: the audience enjoying premiere musicals, dramas and comedies; the artistic community uniting to deliver Atlantic Canada’s largest regional theatre experience. Neptune’s Theatre School and touring company both go a long way to ensuring that community of theatre goers and creators continues to grow.
“Supporting the amazing work of leading Maritime and Canadian playwrights, performers, directors, designers and technicians is something we take great pride in at Neptune,” explains artistic director George Pothitos. “All of Neptune’s productions have a made-in-Nova Scotia sensibility – and everything from the costumes, to the set, to the props on stage are constructed, sourced and crafted inhouse.”
The magic inside spills out to the community that surrounds the theatre as well. Board of Directors president Rob Batherson reports, “The work that comes to life at Neptune translates into more than $9.2 million annually in the region through economic spin-offs and the goods and services that are purchased from more than 200 local businesses.”
